Jonathan Klein is the Founder and Principal of Community Finance Solutions, a consulting firm dedicated to supporting California’s affordable housing lenders and investors.  He is an accomplished affordable housing finance leader with deep experience working in the corporate, nonprofit, and government sectors concentrating on financing high quality affordable apartments to help revitalize communities and enable residents to achieve their aspirations. At Union Bank and First Republic, he and his teams generated over $3.1 Billion in loan volume with zero losses.  Separately, he launched a successful lending program for affordable multifamily apartments building a high quality six deal portfolio of $95 Million in only two years.  Wherever he has worked, Jonathan has developed strong internal partnerships based on trust and respect.

Jonathan holds a BA from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and an MPA from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.  He began his career by working in politics and government.  In addition to working on various state and national political campaigns, he worked in the Massachusetts State Senate as Chief of Staff to the Chair of the Senate Taxation Committee.  He later served as Chief of Staff to two Members of Congress on Capitol Hill both appropriators and one a member of the House Democratic Leadership.

He later pivoted to his passion focusing on affordable housing finance. For over 20 years he has worked for banks and in the Community Development Financial Institution sector.  He has also served as a board member, loan committee member, and in other advisory roles for a CDFI, a housing advocacy group, and a nonprofit affordable housing developer.

Jonathan lives with his family in Lafayette, California.  Outside of work, Jonathan maintains an active life successfully competing in two Powerlifting competitions in 2019 and 2022.  He is completing an online Master in History degree with a focus on the civil rights movement.  He also enjoys hiking Mount Diablo with his family.  You can contact him at: Jonathan.Klein@communityfinancesolutions.com
